Minors Weekly Report: Mitch Voit Breaks Out in Double-A

Mitch Voit broke out massively in his first taste of Double-A ball. In his first six games at the level following his promotion, Voit went 11-for-22 with four doubles, a triple and a home run. He also walked five times compared to just three strikeouts and stole three bases without getting caught. Voit had a .745 OPS in High-A, and that number has been improved to .798 after just one week in Binghamton.

With updated prospect rankings set to arrive after the trade deadline, Voit has firmly made himself a Top 5 prospect in the Mets’ system.

Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets went 2-4 in last week’s series against the Rochester Red Wings. The Mets fall further below .500 in the second half of the season at 14-18. They are 52-55 overall.

Christopher Morel remains red-hot with the bat, going 6-for-17 this past week with three home runs, a double and two walks. Morel drove in six runs to lead the team, and he has a 1.174 OPS in 21 games with Syracuse. With recent Mets moves, he may see himself in the majors soon.

Christian Arroyo went 5-for-15 in four games played, launching a home run and recording a walk and two stolen bases. Arroyo continues to serve as veteran depth in Triple-A, owning a .764 OPS this season.

Jonah Tong looked dominant in his start, tossing five scoreless innings. Tong looked like his typical self, allowing just four baserunners and striking out seven. He still owns a brutal 5.24 ERA this season. He’ll surely have plenty of opportunity at the MLB level after the Mets dealt two of their starters the last couple of fays.

Jonathan Santucci had a pretty good Triple-A debut, allowing two runs in four innings. He struggled with command, allowing five walks and 10 total baserunners, but he also struck out seven. Between Double-A and his one Triple-A start, Santucci owns a 3.61 ERA this season.

Matt Turner was solid out of the bullpen, allowing no runs in four innings across two appearances. He allowed just two hits and hit a batter, allowing no walks. He also struck out two, and he now owns a 4.29 ERA with Syracuse.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies lost their series against the Reading Fightin Phils, going just 2-4. Binghamton was able to salvage the series after losing each of the first three games. They are now 11-22 in the second half of the season and 38-64 overall.

Nick Lorusso showed off his power, going 6-for-21 with three homers and eight RBIs, leading the team in both categories. Lorusso has been one of the organization’s most productive power bats this season, and he now owns 19 home runs and an .814 OPS on the year.

Corey Collins continued his upward trajectory by going 6-for-17 with a triple, a home run and four walks. The slugger owns an .825 OPS between High-A and Double-A this year.

In his first two games since being traded, Billy Amick (A.J. Minter deal) went 3-for-7 with a home run and a walk. He is now, easily, the Mets’ organizational home run leader.

R.J. Gordon delivered one of his best starts of the year, allowing three runs in seven innings. Gordon allowed six hits but notably didn’t walk anybody, and he also struck out seven. Gordon still has just a 6.09 ERA this year.

Carlos Guzman had a good week out of the bullpen, tossing three scoreless innings across two appearances. Guzman allowed a hit and a walk while striking out three. He owns a 2.38 ERA this year for Binghamton.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones split their six-game set with the Winston-Salem Dash. The Dash won the run differential game, outscoring the Cyclones 42-35. The Cyclones are now 17-18 in the second half of the season and 42-58 overall.

Like Mitch Voit, Randy Guzman mashed immediately following a promotion. In his first five games with Brooklyn, Guman went 9-for-20 with a double, a home run and two walks. He also drove in five runs. Between three minor league levels, Guzman owns an .886 OPS in 70 games this season.

Jacob Reimer also had a good week as he continues to work his way back from injury. One of the Mets’ top position player prospects, Reimer went 5-for-15 with two doubles and a home run. He also walked twice. Before his injury, Reimer had a .723 OPS in Double-A.

Colin Houck played in just three games, but he made the most of his opportunities by going 6-for-12 with a triple and a stolen base. Houck has struggled massively to a .605 OPS this season.

Emilio Obispo shined in his first High-A start with eight strikeouts and just one run allowed in 4 2/3 innings in his start. Obispo allowed just one hit, one walk and one hit batsman. In 15 total appearances this year, he has a 2.02 ERA.

Bryce Jenkins looked good out of the bullpen, allowing a run in four innings across two appearances. He allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out five. Jenkins has a 1.99 ERA with Brooklyn this year.

Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets and Dunedin Blue Jays were only able to play five games, with the series finale being rained out. The Blue Jays won the series 3-2, outscoring the Mets 34-32. St. Lucie is now 13-21 in the second half of the season and 46-54 overall.

Elian Peña had a great week at the plate, going 6-for-17 with a double, a home run and two walks. He also led the team with five RBIs. Peña now owns a .748 OPS this season.

Ninth-round pick from this year’s draft, Ryan Tayman, had a great professional debut this past week. Playing in just three games, he went 6-for-13 with two doubles, a home run and a walk. He also drove in four runs.

Mets’ third-round pick from this year’s draft, Aiden Robbins, had a quieter professional debut but still looked good. He went 4-for-12 with a double and a walk, as well as three RBIs.

Nathan Hall looked great in three innings in his start, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk. He recorded just one strikeout and has a 3.27 ERA this season.

Elwis Mijares allowed one run in 4 1/3 innings across two appearances this past week. He allowed 10 baserunners but also struck out six. He owns a 4.91 ERA this season.

DSL Mets

The DSL Mets Blue struggled once again this past week, going 1-4 to fall to 16-29 on the season. The DSL Mets Orange were a little better, going 2-2 to move to 23-22 this season.

Dayron Oramas went 8-for-20 with two doubles, two triples, a home run and eight RBIs for the DSL Mets Blue in a really productive week. He raised his OPS to .844 for the year. On the mound, Arnaldo Tejeda tossed 3 1/3 hitless innings with just one walk allowed and two strikeouts. Tejeda owns a 12.15 ERA.

Wandy Asigen had a great week at the plate for DSL Mets Orange, going 5-for-14 with three home runs and a triple. He also walked three times and stole a base. In his first 21 games in the Mets organization, he has a .981 OPS. On the mound, Cesar Morales allowed two runs (one earned) in 5 2/3 innings, striking out a whopping 11 batters. He owns a 2.38 ERA in six games this summer.

Offense – Mitch Voit, 2B Binghamton

Mitch Voit is really coming into his own this year after struggling in his first 22 professional games last season. He leads the organization in stolen bases and has a season OPS just below .800 after his roaring debut with Binghamton. The former first-round pick will look to keep this momentum going down the stretch this season.

Pitching – R.J. Gordon, P Binghamton

R.J. Gordon has struggled mightily this season, but he delivered a lengthy and effective outing in his last start. Just one year removed from having a 3.36 ERA in 26 games, Gordon has an ERA above 6.00 this season and might be a big rebound candidate in 2027.
