The Mets have reportedly traded infielder J.D. Davis and pitching prospects Thomas Szapucki, Carson Seymour, and Nick Zwack to the Giants for veteran 1B/OF Darin Ruf. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported full trade first.

Ruf, 36, is hitting .216/.328/.373 with 11 home runs and 38 RBIs this season for the Giants. He is under control for the 2023 season and has a $3.5 million team option for 2024.

Ruf’s strength is hitting left-handed pitching, he has slashed .252/.364/.523 against southpaws this season. The former Phillie has played first base and both corner outfield spots this season. Ruf had a 142 OPS+ overall in back-to-back seasons for the Giants in 202o and 2021.

Davis, 29, has struggled in 2022 with a .238/.324/.359 line this season in 66 games for the Mets. He is under team control through the 2024 season.

The left-handed Szapucki struggled mightily in his only big league appearances this season (against the Giants, 9 ER in 1.1 IP).

Seymour and Zwack, both picks from the 2021 draft, were in my midseason top 30 Mets prospect list and Baseball America had them in their updated list as well.

Zwack had a 1,84 ERA across 63 2/3 innings in HIgh-A Brooklyn this season, and the 23-year-old Seymour combined for a 2.76 ERA across 81 2/3 innings in Brooklyn and Low-A St. Lucie.
