There was no slowing the New York Mets down as they hit the road for Miami and pummeled the Marlins by a score of 12-1 on Monday night for their fourth straight victory.

It was a game of firsts for the Mets beginning with Michael Conforto who blasted his first career home run to put the Mets up 3-0 and end an 0-for-12 skid. Conforto went 2-for-4 and scored three runs.

Yoenis Cespedes had his first four RBIs as a Met in a breakout game that saw him collect three doubles to tie a franchise record. Two of those doubles were nearly home runs that were off the top of the wall.

The Mets pounded out 15 hits and were 8-for-17 with runners in scoring position. Everyone in the lineup had at least one hit except for Lucas Duda who did draw a pair of walks.

Curtis Granderson remained red-hot going 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs and a walk. Travis d’Arnaud also contributed with two hits.

Bartolo Colon started the game and pitched a gem, taking a shutout into the eight inning before the Marlins chipped away with a run. Colon allowed seven hits and didn’t walk anyone while striking out five batters. He also picked up his sixth hit of the season in the seventh.

Lefty reliever Sean Gilmartin pitched a perfect ninth inning. Of course he did, he’s been rock solid for us and lowered his ERA to 2.20. What a find…

It was a big night for the Mets who reclaimed sole possession of first place in the NL East for the first time since June 19 as the Nationals lost 6-4 to the D’backs. Now lets put some distance between us and the Nats!

The Mets go for their fifth win in a row on Tuesday night when Jon Niese (5-9, 3.63) opposes left-hander Brad Hand (1-2, 5.12) at 7:10 PM. Let’s Go Mets!
