Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper got snippy with reporters when asked about the New York Mets taking over sole possession of first place in the National League East on Monday night.

“I don’t give a crap what the Mets are doing. Or Dodgers or Giants or Texas or anybody,” Harper said after the Nationals lost to the D’backs on Monday. “I know what kind of team we are.”

The Mets had been killing Harper during the final game of the Nationals series on Sunday, chanting “Over-Rated” when he’d come up to bat.

Harper was also killed on Twitter by fans who mistook the back page of the Daily News for him instead of columnist John Harper.

That prompted hundreds of reactions on Twitter like these:

Actually I think the whole thing was hilarious. It was pretty funny hearing the crowd chant “over-rated” and then watching Noah Syndergaard strike him out to end his outing. Whiff!

Sports is all about rivalries like this, especially baseball, it’s actually part of the charm of the game. But most of the time, the players don’t take this as anywhere as seriously as the fans do.

Case in point, check out this tweet by former Mets Killer and arch-rival Chipper Jones last night:

Awesome! He’s not so bad after all…
