Las Vegas (74-59) 2, Round Rock 0

Brandon Nimmo continued to find his name out of the lineup for the third straight game and 4 out of 5. Haven’t heard any indication from the Mets or anyone that covers them that it is injury related yet. Talked to Adam Rubin today who said he spoke to someone on MLB staff and they had no idea what the situation with Nimmo was.

Tim Stauffer hurled another gem going 8.1 scoreless innings allowing four hits and striking out five without walking anyone. He held Joey Gallo to a single and two strikeouts. Stauffer moved to 4-0 with a 2.23 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in four starts since coming to Las Vegas.

Dario Alvarez came in and got the only batter he faced, has allowed one run in last 24.2 innings pitched. John Church struck out the final batter of the game to pick up his 5th save of the year.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis had the big hit for the 51’s in the 4th inning with a two-run homerun that ended up being all the offense Las Vegas needed to take a 3.5 game lead over El Paso with 12 games remaining. Eric Campbell was 1-3 with a walk and run scored, he has reached base ten times in the last three games.

Dilson Herrera was 1-4, he has cooled off going 2-17 in last four games. Kevin Plawecki had the night off after going 5-14 with three runs scored in his last four games played. Box Score

Binghamton (71-59) 9, New Hampshire 5

Shortstop Gavin Cecchini has been out for the last week and was looked at by doctors in New York yesterday that said he has a hip impingement. He is feeling better according to B’Mets writer Lynn Worthy but is still partaking in limited activity and is considered day-to-day.

The B’Mets offense blasted the game open with six runs in the 5th inning that helped move Tyler Pill to 5-0 since returning to Binghamton. Erik Goeddel got the first two batters he faced out including a strikeout and hit 96 MPH with his fastball during that at bat. He ended up giving up two runs with two-outs on a walk and three soft singles. He came out and got another out in the next inning going 1.1 innings for the first time during his rehab stint.

Josh Smoker faced two batters and walked one while striking out the other to lower his AA ERA to an even 2.00. Paul Sewald pitched a perfect 9th inning with two strikeouts, he now has a fantastic 1.75 ERA and 0.84 WHIP this year.

Josh Rodriguez was 1-5 and knocked in two runs to give him 73 RBI on the year which is good for second in the Eastern League behind Brock Stassi who has 88 for Reading. Xorge Carrillo was 1-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and a two-run shot for his 8th of the season. Here is video of the blast. T.J. Palm Beach 8, St. Lucie (65-64) 6

Dominic Smith was 2-5 with three RBI and his 6th homerun of the year, a moonshot that he pulled to right field. He now has 78 which leads the Florida State League as well as the 3rd best slugging percentage at .411. Matt Oberste was 3-5 with a run scored and his 21st double of the year. He is now slashing .301/.360/.423 for the year in 385 at bats.

Victor Cruzado was 3-5 with a triple, RBI, and two runs scored out of the the leadoff spot. He is hitting .271/.365/.446 in the second half of the season. Jeff McNeil, Stefan Sabol, and Phillip Evans each had two hits on the night. Amed Rosario had a rough night going 0-5 with three strikeouts. Box Score

Savannah (77-49) 11, Asheville 5

On Wednesday night the Sand Gnats lost for the first time since August 2nd, going 18-0-1 in that span. Last night they bounced back, pounding out 18 hits and scoring eight runs in the last four innings. The offense was led by Jonathan Johnson who was 4-5 with a walk, two runs scored, two doubles, four RBI, and his 4th homerun of the year.

Tyler Moore had his best night for the year going 5-5 with three runs scored raising his average to .181 for the year. John Mora went 2-6 with his 22nd double and drove in two giving him 60 RBI for the season. Wuilmer Becerra was 1-6 with a run scored, he has hit just .265 over last ten games but with a 7/7 BB/SO. Eudor Garcia was 1-3 with three walks, he is hitting .351 with 7 RBI in last ten games.

Chris Flexen gave up five runs (three earned) in the first inning before settling down to throw four scoreless following the rough start. He gave up six hits and a walk while striking out three as he moved to 3-0 with the Sand Gnats. Paul Paez pitched 3 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts. Tim Peterson pitched a perfect 9th inning with two punchouts lowering his ERA to 1.86. Box Score

Aberdeen 5, Brooklyn (30-34) 0

Desmond Lindsay was promoted to the Cyclones on Wednesday after hitting .304/.400/.464 in 21 games for the GCL Mets to start his pro career. His first game he went 0-4 with two strikeouts but picked up his first Brooklyn hit last night going 1-2 with a walk. David Thompson was 1-4, he has been battling a sore wrist and missed three games prior to returning for the last two. Box Score

Kingsports (36-27) 6, Elizabethton 3

The Mets scored three runs in the 9th inning to help propel them to the win and lower their magic number for clinching the division title down to 1. Luis Ortega was 2-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and his first long ball of the season. Luis Carpio was 3-5 with two RBI boosting the 18-year old’s average to .311 for the year.

Milton Ramos went 2-4 with two doubles and has hit .343 with only four strikeouts over his last ten games. Rare night when neither of the leagues top two RBI guys Dash Winningham or Patrick Mazeika knock in a run. Dash was 0-5 while Patrick was 1-5 with a run scored.

Gabriel Llanes was strong through 7 innings before hitting a wall in the 8th giving up two runs. Still had a solid outing going 7.2 innings allowing three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six. Taylor Henry, 21st rounder, pitched 1.1 perfect innings with two strikeouts to pick up his first pro win. Box Score

Yeffry De Aza went 2-3 with two walks and four RBI, now .326 for the year. Anthony Dimino went 4-6 with two runs scored and a RBI out of the leadoff spot. Walter Rasquin was 2-4 with a double, two walks, and three runs scored lifting his average to .301 for the season. Box Score
