Here’s a recap of the Mets’ minor-league action on Thursday.

Triple-A: Rochester (25-27) 4, Syracuse (20-34) 3 Box Score

  • RF DJ Stewart 2-for-3, R, 2 RBI 2 RBI (25), HR (11), 224/.884
  • CF Danny Mendick 3-for-4, R, 3 RBI (25), HR (5) .254/707

Stewart and Mendick both went deep for the Mets and those runs in the first two innings were all they needed, given the strong pitching performance. They held on to hold that lead despite not scoring in any of the last six innings. Ronny Mauricio went hitless but got another game under his belt at second base as the big league squad looks for ways to get him in the field as Mets fans clamor for him to make his debut due to strong exit velocities, a low miss rate, and easy to see success in his season numbers.

Joey Lucchesi continued to shove in Syracuse, Vinny Nittoli is making a strong first impression with his new team, and Josh Walker beckons for another call-up soon when the big club needs more lefty innings. Walker has been strong all season and now that his command is getting dialed in, he is becoming a reliable late-inning arm. Buck Showalter is surely most confident in Lucchesi out of any arms in ‘Cuse right now.

Double-A: Binghamton (25-27) 10, Reading (20-32) 8 Box Score

  • RF Matt Rudick, 2-for-4, 3 R, RBI (28), HR (8) BB .319/.998
  • 2B Rowdey Jordan, 1-for-5, HR (5), 3 RBI (25) .225/.742
  • 3B Luke Ritter, 2-for-4, HR (11), 3 RBI (24), BB .229/.914

The Rumble Ponies bats were alive early and often as the Double-A squad brought in four runs in the second and three more in the third inning and barely held onto the lead, escaping with a 10-8 victory. Their lineup is on fire at the beginning of June as Luke Ritter hit his 11th dinger of the season to raise his OPS above .900. Rowdey Jordan has also come alive to reach an above-league-average OPS after a terribly slow start. Matt Rudick continued to do what he does this year, flirting with a sexy 1.000 OPS.

  • RHP Jose Chacin (4.89 ERA) 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
  • RHP Nolan Clenney (5.29 ERA) 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Nolan Clenney had a rock-solid performance in relief to preserve a two-run lead and earn the seven-out save. It was his first save of the season, and hopefully, many more are on their way for the slider-heavy arm. Daison Acosta struggled again out of the pen, allowing four runs while he recorded just two outs. He has a strong arsenal of pitches but just hasn’t found his groove yet after starting the season on the injured list.

High-A: Brooklyn (23-29) Vs. Greenville (29-24) Postponed (Air Quality)

Low-A: St. Lucie (18-35) 3, Daytona (22-32) 0 Box Score

Perozo made it two strong games at the plate in a row as he had the lone extra-base hit in the game. Known for his high exit velocities and pretty left-handed swing, he would be a boon for the St. Lucie squad if he gets hot and goes on a power streak. He is still young, but this is a big season for him to showcase his skills over a big sample size.

The St. Lucie staff combined for a seven-inning shutout of the Tortugas, as Loper and Ovalles only allowed three hits. Loper was able to showcase strong strikeout stuff–the standout stat he had while at Duke–and dominated in long relief.

St. Lucie (17-35) 5, Daytona 7 (22-31) BOX SCORE

The Mets hit three home runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead on Wednesday and, unfortunately, weren’t able to add on or hold their lead. Yeral Martinez continued a hot streak and raised his OPS above .700. Jacob Reimer had a multi-hit day on Thursday alone after starting the game hitless through three innings.

In his abbreviated start, Cuevas had a season-high for strikeouts, but he also had a season-high for walks as well in his second start of the season (third appearance). In the continuation of the game, Saul Garcia carried most of the weight by getting into the sixth inning but allowed a trio of runs in the process despite five punchouts and no walks.

Rookie: FCL Mets (2-2) 9, FCL Astros (1-2) 6 BOX SCORE

Jesus Baez had an encouraging day at the plate on Thursday. The top 30 prospect walked three times which any modern baseball fan loves to see and his supporting cast did well as both Mosquera and Cuevas had three-hit days.

  • RHP Jose Gomez (0.00 ERA) 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
  • RHP Luis Montas (0.00 ERA) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Jose Gomez and Luis Montas had standout performances in the staff game for the FCL Mets. Montas had his first official game action since going down in spring training 2022 with an elbow injury. Montas was on the fast track up the ranks, rocketing through Low-A to High-A Brooklyn in 2021. He features a nasty four-seam with cutting action and has a high ground ball rate.

DSL Mets Orange (2-1) 6, DSL NYY Bombers (3-0) 7 BOX SCORE

While Gutierrez and Larez are both on the Mets top 30 prospect list, Larez has been the one to come out of the gates hot with another multi-hit performance in the close loss to the Bombers. Chirinos had an encouraging first performance of the season with four hitless innings. At the start of his second season in the DSL, he got off on the right foot and will be in Florida before long if he keeps things up at this pace.

DSL Mets Blue (1-2) 12, DSL Marlins (1-2) 6 BOX SCORE

Any day with 12 runs is a good day for the offense, as the Mets Blue squad came from behind after trailing by four runs early to put up six runs in the seventh inning to take a decisive lead. Two different players hit home runs and four different players had multi-hit games as they went on to win their first game of the young season.
