Mets slugger Pete Alonso is out of the lineup on Thursday as the Braves go for the sweep in Atlanta at 7:20 p.m. ET. Alonso was hit with a 97 mph fastball by Charlie Morton in the first inning on Wednesday night and immediately left the game. The Mets announced later that Alonso was diagnosed with a left wrist contusion and was considered day-to-day.

Major-league home run leader Pete Alonso was forced to exit Wednesday’s game against the Braves in the first inning after being hit on the wrist/hand by a pitch from Braves starter Charlie Morton. Alonso’s X-rays were negative, and he was diagnosed with a wrist contusion. He is considered day-to-day.

Although the hit-by-pitch was clearly not intentional, many Braves fans could be heard audibly cheering Alonso getting hit and yelling, “throw it again”, a reference to Alonso talking smack to Bryce Elder after taking him yard on Tuesday night.

Tommy Pham replaced Alonso in Wednesday’s game with Canha moving from the outfield to first base.
