Charlotte (36-28) 7, Syracuse (31-34) 6 Box Score

  • RF/1B Travis Taijeron: 2-for-3, 2 R, 2B, HR(14), 2 RBI(42), BB | .230/.351/.563
  • 3B Danny Espinosa: 1-for-5, R, HR(11), RBI(42), SB(8), 2 K | .266/.349/.488
  • DH Brandon Nimmo: 0-for-3, RBI(1), SB(1), 2 BB | .000/.400/.000
  • 2B Robinson Cano: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K | .500/.571/.833

The Syracuse offense scored single runs in the bottom of the third, fourth, and fifth innings, thanks to the power of Taijeron and Espinosa, but found themselves down 7-3 heading into the bottom of ninth. The team would stage a rally against former top prospect Carson Fulmer who lost control and proceeded to allow a single and walk three consecutive batters including an RBI walk by Brandon Nimmo. Blair Walsh would replace Fulmer but allowed a full count two RBI single to Arismendy Alcantara to pull the game within one run. However, that’s where the rally would end as the next batter, Espinosa, would get the fly ball needed to score Nimmo from third base, but it was not deep enough and Nimmo was through out trying to score to end the game.

  • RHP Casey Coleman: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 K, 3 BB | 1-7, 6.10 ERA, 1.57 WHIP
  • RHP Chris Flexen: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB | 4-2, 3.46 ERA, 1.28 WHIP
  • LHP Ryan O’Rourke: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 K, 1 BB, Loss | 0-2, 3.86 ERA, 1.57 WHIP
  • RHP Tyler Bashlor: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 K, 0 BB | 2-1, 6.14 ERA, 1.70 WHIP
  • RHP Eric Hanhold: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 K, 0 BB | 2-3, 5.70 ERA, 1.77 WHIP

After allowing three runs in the first three innings, Casey Coleman pitched well enough to keep the Mets in the game long enough for the offense to tie things up in the bottom of the fifth inning. Chris Flexen made his first appearance out of the bullpen after Coleman and tossed two solid innings of work in what could be a possible audition for the MLB bullpen. In the eighth inning, O’Rourke was able to get the first two outs but allowed a double and walk in between them before being pulled in favor of Tyler Bashlor, who allowed both inherited runners to score before recording the third out.

Trenton (35-25) 7, Binghamton (33-26) 2 Box Score

The Rumble Ponies struggled to produce any sort of offense in this one collecting only three total bases on three singles between Mazeika and Carpio while striking out a total of twelve times in the game.

  • RHP Mickey Jannis: 5.1 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 7 K, 2 BB, Loss | 2-1, 3.41 ERA, 1.43 WHIP
  • RHP Joe Zanghi: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 K, 0 BB | 2-1, 2.10 ERA, 1.25 WHIP
  • RHP Austin McGeorge: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 1 BB | 0-2, 3.80 ERA, 1.41 WHIP

Jannis struggled once again allowing twelve base runners to reach against him for the second consecutive start.

Clearwater (36-29) 7, St. Lucie (31-34) 2 Box Score

Carlos Cortes continued his recent power surge hitting his third home run in the last eight games and adding his tenth RBI in the same time frame. He is now tied for seventh in the Florida State League for home runs and stands alone in third place for RBIs.

  • RHP Dedniel Nunez: 3.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 K, 0 BB, Loss | 0-2, 4.68 ERA, 1.19 WHIP
  • RHP Kyle Wilson: 3.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 2 BB | 3-7, 4.29 ERA, 1.64 WHIP

In this rain shortened affair, Nunez was smacked around for eight hits in only three innings of work resulting in four runs scoring. After allowing no more than three base hits in his first four starts with St. Lucie, Nunez has allowed eight plus in two of his last three appearances. Kyle Wilson piggybacked Nunez and pitched well but a two out fielding error by Blake Tiberi resulted in three runs scoring in the bottom of sixth inning.

Asheville (29-37) 6, Columbia (24-38) 4 Box Score

Chambers posted his first multi-RBI game since May 20th when he drove in both Molina and Hansel Moreno in the bottom of the third inning. Outside of Chambers the rest of the Columbia offense continued to struggle racking up only four hits the rest of the way. The team ranks dead last in the South Atlantic League in runs scored, hits, AVG, and OPS.

  • RHP Willy Taveras: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 K, 1 BB | 4-5, 4.01 ERA, 1.19 WHIP
  • RHP Allan Winans: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 0 BB | 0-1, 5.40 ERA, 1.32 WHIP
  • RHP Tylor Megill: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 K, 0 BB | 1-0, 0.69 ERA, 1.00 WHIP
  • RHP Jose Moreno: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 1 BB, Loss | 2-3, 2.49 ERA, 1.38 WHIP

Taveras was solid again for the Fireflies allowing only three earned runs or less for the seventh time in his last eight starts including quality starts in six of those games. 2018 eighth round draft pick Tylor Megill continues to show that perhaps the Mets were too conservative assigning him to the South Atlantic League as he racked up his twentieth strikeout already in only his eight appearance this season.

DSL Mets1 (6-3) 8, DSL Orioles2 (2-6) 0 Box Score

The DSL 1 team had a small army on the base-paths in this game as they collected a combined eleven hits and added eight walks to go with them. The only downside to the game was that the team was a combined 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position.

  • LHP Javier Atencio: 4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 0 BB | 0-0, 6.35 ERA, 1.41 WHIP
  • LHP Carlos Castellanos: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 0 BB, Win | 1-1, 0.00 ERA, 1.64 WHIP
  • RHP Cristian Olivero: 3.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 0 BB | 0-0, 1.29 ERA, 0.71 WHIP

Atencio was much better in this start after allowing four earned runs in only 1.2 innings of work his last time out. Cristian Olivero continued his strong start to the season with three more hit-less innings of work today, giving him seven total innings this season without allowing a base hit yet.

DSL Rangers2 (4-6) 7, DSL Mets2 (4-6) 2 Box Score

The DSL Mets2 offense racked up eight hits on the night but couldn’t drive those base runners in going 1-for-7 with Runners in Scoring Position. Campos posted his fifth multi-hit game in the first ten games of the season and De Los Santos drew his tenth walk already this season.

  • RHP Miguel Alfonseca: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 K, 4 BB, Loss | 0-1, 9.82 ERA, 2.45 WHIP
  • RHP Marco Villegas: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 0 BB | 0-1, 0.00 ERA, 0.82 WHIP

Alfonseca struggled with his command again walking four of the thirteen batters he faced which brings his season total to six in only 3.2 innings of work this season. In the bullpen, Villegas posted his third straight clean inning to open the season striking out three in two innings of work. So far he has shown improved command having not issued a walk yet this season after issuing ten of them in his limited five innings of work last season.
