According to Michael Diaz of Mets Minor League Blog, Mets pitching prospect Jeurys Familia was placed on the Disabled list retroactive to July 14 with a right shoulder impingement.

The move was “precautionary” according to B-Mets pitching coach Marc Valdes, and there is no timetable for his return.

After six starts for Single-A Port St. Lucie in which he posted a 1.49 ERA, Familia was promoted to Double-A Binghamton where he made ten starts and posted a 3.38 ERA in 57 innings pitched.

Familia is a power pitcher who frequently hits 97-98 mph on the radar gun, but stays mostly around 95-96 mph. Most scouts believe he is a changeup away from being a successful starting pitcher in the major leagues, while others view him as a power reliever.

Lets hope it won’t be long until Familia gets back on the mound for Bingo and back on the fast track to the majors.
