The New York Mets made more roster moves on Thursday when they placed six players on outright waivers to continue their 40-man roster reconfiguration. Right-handed pitchers Peyton Battenfield, John Curtiss, Elieser Hernández, Bryce Montes de Oca, and Denyi Reyes, and outfielder Tim Locastro are on waivers. Curtiss, Hernández, Reyes, and Locastro can all elect free agency if they clear waivers.

This comes a couple of weeks after the Mets put Rafael Ortega, Danny Mendick, Vinny Nittoli, Michael Pérez, Jonathan Araúz, and Anthony Kay on waivers. The first five players mentioned cleared waivers and became free agents, while Kay was claimed by the A’s.

The Mets also recently claimed right-handed pitcher Penn Murfee off waivers from the Seattle Mariners. Veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco officially became a free agent on Thursday.

The early maneuvering puts the Mets’ 40-man roster currently at 33. Please note that the Mets 40-man roster on their website is not updated.

Here is a breakdown of the Mets’ 40-man roster as we speak:

Pitchers (19)

Raley (team option at $6.5 million) and Ottavino (player option at $6.75 million) are both likely to stay Mets for the 2023 season. They have until Monday to decide on their options. Coonrod, Gott, Brigham, and Smith are among the Mets non-tender candidates.

All players who were on the 60-day injured list had to be activated following the conclusion of the World Series.

Catchers (2)

Narváez exercised his $7 million player option for 2024.

Infielders (8)

Guillorme is arbitration-eligible and projected to make $1.7 million in 2024.

Outfielders (3)

Stewart is arbitration-eligible and is projected to make $1.5 million in 2024.

Designated Hitter (1)

David Stearns non-tendered Vogelbach in Milwaukee and there’s certainly a chance he does again. Vogelbach is projected to make $2.6 million next year.
