Start spreading the news, I’m betting today.

The New York Mets have everyone wanting to be a part of it this upcoming season from managers and players to sports bettors.

SportsBetting.AG has the Metropolitans at number two on their best odds to win the 2022 World Series at +850. The only team the Mets trail are the perennial favorite Los Angeles Dodgers at +600.

Here’s the full list of odds:

Obviously, the Mets are listed second for the best NL Pennant odds as well behind the Dodgers. Los Angeles is listed at +300 while the Mets are at +475.

But the Mets are the best bet in the NL East. Or at least tied for it. Both New York and the Atlanta Braves are listed at +150. The Philadelphia Phillies (+450), Miami Marlins (+1200), and Washington Nationals (+1400) round out the division.

Based on the odds right now the World Series representative for the National League is a tight race between the Dodgers, Mets, and Braves (+575). The San Diego Padres (+700) and Milwaukee Brewers (+800) finish the top five. Together it equals a plausible scenario of three division winners (LA, NY, MIL) and the two Wild Card representatives (ATL, SD). But that’s under the current system and not the expanded playoffs like many are expecting to see in 2022.

SportsBetting.AG’s odds for the Mets to win the title are much higher than what was seen a month ago when the Mets signed Max Scherzer. Before the Mets signed the ace the best odds you could find on them winning the World Series was +2200, then they more than doubled to +1000 odds once his signing was confirmed.

At the time, that marked the fourth-best odds behind the Dodgers, White Sox, and Yankees.

So what boosted the Mets this time? Buck Showalter.

It makes sense for bettors to be bullish on the Mets’ chances for 2022 after their acquisitions of Starling Marte, Mark Canha, and Eduardo Escobar. Now with an experienced man in the dugout, they’re only getting antsier.

Or it could all just be a ploy as online sports betting rolls out in New York.
