The New York Mets (82-72) defeated the Philadelphia Phillies (69-85) by a score of 10-5 tonight at Citi Field and have assured themselves a winning record with their 82nd win.

Pitching:

Participation Day!

Gabriel Ynoa started this game for the Mets. In what seems like forever ago, Ynoa tossed two innings, but was removed after getting into hot water.

Ynoa’s final line has him going two innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while walking one and striking out one.

Logan Verrett relieved Ynoa in the third and tossed two innings of his own, allowing another run on two hits, while walking two and striking out two.

Josh Smoker, who actually recorded the win, allowed two more runs on one hit, while walking one and striking out two. It would not matter much, however, as the Mets offense was potent tonight and bailed the first three pitchers out.

Erik Goeddel, Josh Edgin and Hansel Robles then combined to finish the game by keeping the Phillies at bay.

Offense:

The Mets exploded for 10 runs tonight! Here’s how it went down:

The slumping Travis d’Arnaud got the Mets on the board first. Down 2-0, d’Arnaud plated a run with an RBI double. In the fifth, now down 3-1, Curtis Granderson singled in a run to cut the Phillies lead to 3-2.

Kelly Johnson chipped in a pair to give the Mets a 4-3 lead, and then Michael Conforto busted the game open with a three-run bomb. 7-3 Mets.

The Phillies would answer back on a two-run bomb from Darin Ruf to make it 7-5, but the Mets tacked on three more in the seventh to extend their lead, and this time for good.

On deck:

The Mets will look for the series victory tomorrow. Sean Gilmartin (0-0, 4.76 ERA) will make a spot start, and will face off against Alec Asher (1-0, 2.16 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
