On a conference call this afternoon, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said that the team doesn’t expect right-handed pitcher AJ Ramos back anytime soon.
Ramos, 31, was placed on the disabled list on May 28 with right rotator cuff tendinitis, and is deciding between surgery or taking the more “conservative route” back.
In 28 games for New York this year, Ramos had a 6.41 ERA, 60 ERA+, 5.14 FIP and 1.627 WHIP over 19.2 innings. That includes a rough series in Milwaukee over Memorial Day weekend where he was roughed up in back-to-back games.
Ramos was originally acquired by the Mets last July in exchange for prospects Merandy Gonzalez and Ricardo Cespedes.
He is making $9.2 million this year and is a free agent at season’s end.
