The Mets have placed Jim Henderson on the disabled list with right biceps tendinitis and have recalled Sean Gilmartin from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Henderson had initially been diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement and was listed as day to day.

Gilmartin, 26, will wear #36 and will be available for tonight’s game. Gilmartin was 8-3 with a 4.48 ERA (35 earned runs/70.1 innings) in 12 starts for the 51s this year. He issued 19 walks and struck out 68.

Gilmartin has thrown 5.0 scoreless innings with New York this year when he was with the team from May 12-17. Gilmartin was 3-2 with a 2.67 ERA (17 earned runs/57.1 innings) in 50 games for the Mets last year.

Original Report – June 19

The Mets announced that right-handed reliever Jim Henderson underwent an MRI after leaving Saturday night’s loss to the Braves after 10 pitches. He is listed as day-to-day after being examined by team doctors who diagnosed him with a “right shoulder impingement.”

Henderson, 33,  was only able to register one out last night, but not before allowing a game-tying homer to Brandon Flowers on the first pitch in the seventh.

Manager Terry Collins downplayed the issue. last night “He probably needs some medication and a day,” he told reporters. “He’ll probably have tomorrow and Monday off.”

“We kind of picked it up when he started the inning his first pitch was 91 (mph) so that was kind of an indication that something might be amiss. Then the slider, he said that when he threw the slider he just felt his shoulder and said he wanted to back off, wasn’t sure what it was.”

After missing nearly two years with two shoulder surgeries, the former Brewers closer won a job in the Mets bullpen following a dominant Spring Training.

Henderson was one of the team’s most effective relievers to begin the season. However, he has struggled with consistency and velocity issues since May 1, posting a 5.86 ERA in 19 relief appearances in that span.

Overall, Henderson has a 4.26 and 1.342 WHIP this season in 31 appearances.
