The Mets have claimed two unknown players — including one relief pitcher — off the waiver wire, reports Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News. They have yet to complete a deal stemming from those claims, however.

The Mets have also placed at least five players on waivers, including Travis d’Arnaud, Wilmer Flores, Josh Edgin, Erik Goeddel, and Ty Kelly.

In August, players must be placed on waivers before being traded. If no team claims a player, he can be dealt to any team. If a team claims a player, the two teams have 48.5 hours to make a deal. The trading team can either dump the player to the other club, agree to a trade with that team, or remove the player off waivers entirely.

Keep in mind, a team placing a player on waivers does not necessarily mean they are seriously looking to deal that player. Sometimes it is just a way to keep options open or to gauge interest.
