The New York Mets (53-49) were defeated by the Colorado Rockies (51-52) at Citi Field by a score of 6-1. The Miami Marlins were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals tonight, so we won’t lose any ground on them in the standings, and the Nationals play the Giants at 10:15 tonight.

Pitching:

Steven Matz had a very solid outing this evening, pitching six innings, allowing two runs on ten hits, while walking one and striking out five. His line doesn’t reflect it, but Matz gave a very gutsy performance and worked up a lot of guile to keep the Mets in this game.

Colorado had many opportunities to bust this game wide open, but Matz limited the damage despite laboring through a lot of pitches.

The first run Matz allowed came in the first on a double from Carlos Gonzalez, and the second came in the sixth on a single from Nick Hundley.

Matz was relieved by Erik Goeddel, who pitched two innings, but did allow another run to score on a homer from Mark Reynolds in the eighth, to make it 3-1 Rockies.

Oh, and classic Antonio Bastardo tonight, serving up a three run bomb to Carlos Gonzalez, to make it 6-1 and putting the icing on the cake of another very frustrating evening.

Offense:

The lone run of the game for the Mets came off a home run from James Loney in the second. As per usual, when the Mets don’t hit home runs, they don’t score. This was again reflected in tonight’s box score, as the Mets had countless chances to score but they just don’t know how to hit with runners in scoring position. It’s pathetic and nauseating. Plain and simple.

Tyler Chatwood surrendered only three hits over seven innings, but gave the Mets so many opportunities to get something started. He walked four batters, but again, nothing.

There’s nothing else to say. Besides one good year, Terry Collins perpetuates a losing baseball culture. The Mets are one of the worst teams in BASEBALL HISTORY in regards to hitting with runners in scoring position (I’m looking at you too, Kevin Long). I’ve been calling for Collins’ termination for months now, and if you aren’t concerned as a fan, it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee. Enough with the CONSTANT lineup changes every day and the bonehead in game decisions. Someone else needs to run this team who is going to spark a fire under these guys. You can’t score one run a game and expect to win. These guys have no heart. It’s ridiculous, and a change is vastly needed. That’s all I’m going to say. End rant. Opinions are my own.

On Deck:

Bartolo Colon (9-5, 3.35 ERA) takes on Jorge De La Rosa (6-7, 5.70 ERA) tomorrow night as the Mets will look to get back in the win column. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
