The New York Mets are adding Olympic gold medalist and ESPN broadcaster Jessica Mendoza to their front office in a baseball operations advisory role according to a press release. She will also stay in her role at Sunday Night Baseball.
According to the team’s official statement, Mendoza will provide insight to general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, along with the entire baseball operation department, as well. She will also assist with player evaluation, roster construction, technological advancement, and health and performance.
“I am excited to work with Brodie and his team and am thrilled to be associated with the Mets and their storied history. I’ve known Brodie and Jeff Wilpon for years now and I’m honored to be a small part of the organization,” said Mendoza, who spoke on her new role with the team. Her connection with Van Wagenen runs even deeper, as she also attended Stanford University, and is represented by Brodie’s former employer, CAA.
“She is a world-class athlete and experienced television analyst with an extremely high baseball IQ. We are confident that she will help us in our efforts to win now and in the future,” said Van Wagenen, who expressed his excitement on bringing the former Team USA softball outfielder on board.
Mendoza is the latest addition to the Mets front office after the recent hires of former franchise great players, David Wright, Al Leiter, and John Franco. These former Mets will also be involved with the baseball operations department and serve as special advisors to Van Wagenen.
