Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported that Devin Mesoraco suffered a left elbow bruise in the middle innings of Monday’s game against the Miami Marlins. It apparently occurred as a result of a back swing while he was catching.
Mesoraco will be out of the lineup on Tuesday according to the Mets, but will be available off the bench. They are calling it a bruised left arm.
The Mets believed that Mesoraco only suffered a contusion, but decided to get some precautionary X-rays anyways just to be safe on Monday. Mesoraco has an extensive injury history so this certainly would appear to make sense.
However, Mesoraco himself announced that the X-rays were negative and he just has some swelling.
The 29-year old went 1-for-4 last night and scored a run. Despite hitting .210/.310/.435 with four home runs and eight RBI this season, he has been a valuable addition to the Mets as the production they were getting from their previous tandem of Jose Lobaton and Tomas Nido was not satisfactory.
