According to an announcement from the New York Mets, right-handed pitcher Anthony Swarzak threw a bullpen session in Florida on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old has been sidelined since the end of March with a strained left oblique.

Fred Kerber of the New York Post reports that Anthony Swarzak played catch yesterday without pain.

The right-hander was initially expected to return before the end of April, but instead has suffered a couple of setbacks on his road to recovery from a strained left oblique that he suffered on March 31.

“I don’t have a [return] timeframe. I know I played catch today and I felt good. It was the first day that I’ve played catch. I get on a plane tomorrow and go to Port St. Lucie and start building back up closer to a game. So first time [playing catch] and it was pain-free. That’s great news. That was the first step. I’m going to throw more and more every day.”

The Mets bullpen could certainly use the help in the bullpen with many of their arms tired out, which could be blamed in part on their starting pitching that has struggled to get deep into games outside of Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard.

Swarzak signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the team in the offseason and had allowed one run in 2 1/3 innings with three strikeouts before landing on the DL on April 2.
