New York Mets’ number five prospect, Mark Vientos, has reportedly been selected to play in the 2022 Futures Game as a replacement. He will join Triple-A Syracuse teammate Francisco Álvarez in representing the Mets.

Vientos, the Mets’ second round pick in 2017 (59th overall), is slashing .251/.337/.480, which is good for a comfortably above-average .826 OPS with Triple-A Syracuse. He has scored 39 runs and has registered eight doubles, one triple, and 15 home runs. Vientos has driven in 41 runs in 63 games played.

Should Vientos continue hitting the way he is, many scouts and analysts say he could soon see his time at Triple-A conclude. This resulting in a big league call up. Though he has had his fair share of strikeouts (83), he also does walk a fair amount. As his batting average and on-base percentage differential of 86 points may indicate.

His power bat would be a much needed addition to the Mets’ lineup. However, only time will tell if he sees time with New York this season. Regardless, nice to see Vientos get the recognition he so deserves.

This will be Vientos’ first appearance in the Futures Game. The game will take on Saturday, July 16th at Dodgers Stadium. It will be streamed exclusively on Peacock.
