Juan Soto has been named a finalist for the National League MVP award. He is joined by Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber and the heavily-favored Shohei Ohtani in the race for the honors. Soto is the only Met named a finalist for any of the major awards.
In his first year as a Met, Soto batted .263/.396/.525 with a career-high 43 homers, 120 runs scored, and a Mets franchise record 127 walks in 715 plate appearances. Soto also swiped a career-high 38 bases in 42 tries. The 27-year-old led the majors in walks while pacing the National League in on-base percentage and sharing the lead in stolen bases with Oneil Cruz. Soto also ranked third in the NL in OPS, home runs, and RBIs, second in runs scored, and fourth in slugging percentage.
