Jon Heyman of CBS Sports is reporting that Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes has cleared waivers and can be traded to any team willing to take on his remaining $44 million dollar contract through 2017.

Reyes recently told Steve Politi of NJ.com that he believes the Mets can win the World Series this year.

“No question, they can win it all,” Reyes said. “With the way they’re pitching? You see the pitching staff they have, they’re unbelievable. They’re very good, man. They’re very good. If they can find away to score three or four runs a game, they’ll be very dangerous.”

“I feel happy for the fans,” Reyes said. “The fan base in New York, they’ve been waiting for this kind of moment for a long time. Now (the Mets) have the opportunity to do something special, they’ve been really supporting the team.”

“This is the first time I’ve seen Citi Field like this. I’ve seen that atmosphere in Shea Stadium, but not here. That’s good to see.”

Check out this exclusive interview by Tim Rohan of the New York Times, who caught up with former Mets shortstop Jose Reyes, now a new member of the Colorado Rockies.

Reyes discusses his trade to the Rockies from the Toronto Blue Jays and laments going from a team hunting for the postseason to a last place team. At this stage of his career, all Reyes wants is another shot at the post season.

“We had an opportunity when I was there,” he said, thinking back to the days when he was an All-Star Mets shortstop. “In 2006, 2007, 2008, I feel like we had a team that could win maybe one World Series. We weren’t able to get it done. Sometimes, it crosses my mind.”

Now 32, and with the skills that once made him one of the most exciting players in baseball and a catalyst at the top of the lineup significantly diminished, Reyes still believes he has a lot to offer.

“My game is a little bit different, for sure, but I still feel like I do my job,” Reyes said. “When you get older, you have to find a way. You know your game is going to change one way or another. That’s the way it is.”

Reyes understands how his contract makes him tough to trade, but he hopes that the Rockies fortunes will improve over the next two seasons and if not, he longs for an opportunity to end his career with a contender, and preferably the Mets. He still makes his home in New York.

“I’d love to — not now, because I have two more years on my deal. But I’d love to finish my career here in New York. I have some great memories here.”
