Sad news was announced Sunday afternoon. New York Mets legend Jerry Koosman passed away at the age of 83. The team announced the news on social media.

Koosman, a veteran of 19 major-league seasons, spent 12 with the Mets spanning 1967-1978. With New York, he posted a 3.09 ERA and 140 wins across 2,544 2/3 innings. He was instrumental in the Mets’ first World Series title in 1969.
During that playoff run, the left-handed pitcher threw two strong games in the World Series. He was the winning pitcher in Game 2, as well as the decisive Game 5, where he threw a complete game.
Koosman ranks second, only to Tom Seaver, in total innings thrown as a Met. His 140 wins rank third.
Koosman’s No. 36 is retired at Citi Field and he was inducted into the Mets’ Hall of Fame in 1989.
All the best to his family and friends during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
