Francisco Alvarez hit a game-winning grand slam in the eighth inning of Venezuelan Winter League action Saturday night. Alvarez went 2-for-5 in the contest with five RBIs. With the big day, his average in the league is up to .308 with an .846 OPS. He’s up to 14 at-bats with Navegantes del Magallanes thus far.

On the flip side, it was a tough day for the New York Mets’ prospects taking part in the Arizona Fall League slate. The team the players are representing, the Surprise Saguaros, dropped a 11-2 decision. As a result, they are now 12-9 on the season.

Peyton Prescott, a fifth-round pick in 2025, made his fifth start of the AFL season. Across 2 1/3 innings, he allowed four hits, five runs (four earned), one walk, and struck out two. This performance increased his AFL ERA from 3.68 to 6.52. He has thrown 9 2/3 innings.

Irving Cota, who pitched terrifically for High-A Brooklyn (0.73 ERA across 24 2/3 innings), also allowed a few runs. Across 1 2/3 innings, the 22-year-old allowed two runs on two hits. His AFL ERA is up to 4.26.

As for the hitting prospects that participated. Both Boston Baro and Bruin Agbayani went hitless. Each did walk, and Baro scored one of Surprise’s two runs on the day. Baro’s AFL OPS sits at .778 while Agbayani’s is at a troubling .440.

Baro, 22, was limited to 34 at-bats in 2026 due to injury. Agbayani, 19, also missed a plethora of time due to injury and only appeared in three games for Single-A St. Lucie after the trade from the Minnesota organization.
