New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom pitched the third inning for the National League in tonight’s MLB All-Star Game at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.

deGrom, 30, currently leads all Major League Baseball starters in earned-run average (1.68), is third in fielding independent pitching rating (2.32) and ranks third in wins above replacement among qualified hurlers with 4.4.

Jake followed Nationals ace, Max Scherzer, who got the start in his home park and looked mostly dominant through his two innings of work, apart from the mammoth home run he allowed to Aaron Judge in the second to put the American League ahead, 1-0.

The first batter deGrom faced, Red Sox star centerfielder Mookie Betts, flew out to Bryce Harper. He got Jose Altuve to pop out to Nolan Arenado for the second out of the inning, but surrendered a solo homer to Mike Trout, a laser beam to left, to give the American League a 2-0 lead. He struck out J.D. Martinez on a 98.5 MPH four-seamer to end the frame.

During deGrom’s appearance, FOX Sports interviewed Harper, who spoke glowingly of the Mets’ right-hander.

“He’s lights out. The guy is unbelievable. I’ll have to face him in the NL East all year long.”
