There is some good news in Mets land today with Jacob deGrom continuing to make progress on the road to recovery.

DeGrom underwent follow-up imaging on Monday that revealed “continued healing” in the scapula after tests done three weeks ago showed a similar trend.

That is certainly good news for the Mets and deGrom and the results show that the ace starter is certainly heading in the right direction. As a result, deGrom will continue to build distance and velocity in his throwing program, with the team set to announce updates on his progress as and when they have any news. DeGrom started throwing again last week for the first time since his initial scapula injury.

Also of note is the fact that there is no timeline for the two-time Cy Young Award winner to do any mound work, but today should be viewed as a positive step forward in any case.

It’s been six-and-a-half weeks since deGrom’s initial diagnosis, and the lack of throwing off a mound means the ace will likely not see any MLB action until around the All-Star break. That will make it a full year since deGrom pitched in a major-league game.

“We’re pleased with what we saw yesterday,” general manager Billy Eppler said of deGrom’s MRI. “He’s going to get to get to move back farther and throw harder, so those are good things.”

Other Mets Moves

In other Mets news, Starling Marte was placed on the bereavement list Monday and won’t be in the lineup for either of today’s games against the Cardinals or Wednesday’s game. He’s eligible to come off the bereavement list Thursday.

The Mets have also called reliever Stephen Nogosek back up from Syracuse in Marte’s place, and they’ve also recalled righty pitcher Adonis Medina as their 27th man for today’s doubleheader. They’ll need all the pitching help they can get with 18 innings needed thrown and spot starter Trevor Williams starting Game 1.
