Those of us who live in the tri-state area started to get warnings on Sunday about how bad the weather was going to be Monday afternoon and evening. I’m a teacher in Newark and we canceled all afternoon activities. Around the same time, the Mets canceled the game. Anecdotally, it seems the strength of the storms varied greatly where you live.

The baseball result is the Mets and Cardinals will now play four games over a compact three days. The Mets, with the possibility of more bad weather looming over the weekend in Colorado, are still going to use Trevor Williams today and bring in a 27th man for the bullpen.

Mets Lineup

The Mets bats draw Miles Mikolas who is off to a career start this year.

Over seven games and 42 1/3 innings, Miles has a 1.49 ERA, 2.96 FIP, 0.945 WHIP and a 257 ERA+. He’s allowed two runs in two starts this season, every other start has allowed one run or less. This includes a start against the Mets where he shut the Mets out over seven innings holding them to only four hits. He’s an early front runner for the NL Cy Young.

The Mets have the following career numbers against him:

Cardinals Lineup

Trevor Williams has pitched 11 innings this year over five games (one start) with a 5.73 ERA, 3.19 FIP, 1.636 WHIP and a 70 ERA+.

In his one start against the Diamondbacks at the end of May, he allowed four runs on seven hits in two innings. Since that game, he has only been used in long-relief outings. He’s pitched 3 2/3 innings twice in those appearances–first against the Braves where he allowed three runs on three hits, then against the Nationals after Tylor Megill’s last start where he allowed no runs and only two hits.

Overall in these last three games he has thrown 62, 53 and 51 pitches, which gives us an idea of where his ceiling will be today. The Cardinals have the following numbers against him:

Game Notes

The Mets announced Jacob deGrom showed “continued healing” in his scapula after further imaging was done. The team said he’ll continue to ramp up his effort and velocity when throwing on flat ground but didn’t reveal any plans to eventually pitch off a slope.

Starling Marte was placed on the bereavement list, and Stephen Nogosek was called up in his place.

Adonis Medina is today’s 27th man for the doubleheader.

James McCann underwent surgery to fix his broken hamate bone in his wrist today, Buck Showalter said before the game.

Some other miscellaneous game notes:

  • The Mets are 5-1 in doubleheaders so far this season.
  • The last time the Mets swept the Cardinals in a doubleheader was August 10, 1989.
  • Francisco Lindor is four RBI away from 500 in his career.

Let’s go Mets!
