Major League Baseball’s hot stove is heating up. Two of the biggest names on the market continue to have rumors swirling around them, and a few players came off the board.

Machado Weighing His Options

With offers from the Phillies and Yankees lingering, free agent slugger Manny Machado now reportedly has an offer from the Chicago White Sox to add to his plate.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports is reporting that the Sox “have formally offered Machado a long-term contract proposal”, as per his sources, adding that “it’s characterized as a serious offer, likely closer to $200 million than $300 million”.

Machado, 26, is a lifetime .282/.335/.487 hitter with 175 home runs, 513 runs batted in, and 211 doubles over seven MLB seasons.

In 709 plate appearances last season split between Baltimore and the Dodgers, the Florida native hit .297/.367/.538 with 37 homers, 107 RBI, 35 doubles, and a career-high 146 OPS+ rating.

Phillies Sign Robertson

Veteran right-hander David Robertson came to terms with the Philadelphia Phillies on a two-year, $23 million deal, as per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

“He’ll earn $10 million in 2019, $11 million in 2020, with a $12 million club option ($2 million buy out) for 2021,” Feinsand wrote. “He’s passed a physical and the deal is complete.”

The Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, and others have been linked to the 34-year-old this offseason, but apparently, the Phillies were the best fit for Robertson.

In 69 appearances for the Yankees last season, the Alabama native pitched to a 3.23 earned-run average with a 2.97 fielding independent pitching rating, 1.033 WHIP, and 3.50 strikeouts-to-walks ratio.

Yankees Turn Sights Onto Britton

A few notable baseball writers pointed to the New York Yankees showing heavy interest in a reunion with left-handed reliever Zach Britton.

Jon Heyman of FanCred Sports noted that the Yanks “seem focused” on the 31-year-old southpaw, adding that “he is believed to have multiple offers, but [the Yankees want] to bring him back”.

Jayson Stark of The Athletic also reported that the Yankees were “in on Britton”, including Adam Ottavino and David Robertson in that conversation before Robertson signed with Philadelphia later in the day.

Britton, 31, pitched to a 3.10 ERA in 41 appearances for the Orioles (16) and the Yankees (25) last season with a 4.22 FIP rating and 1.230 WHIP but owned a measly 1.62 strikeouts-to-walks ratio.

Realmuto Price Remains High

In the story that feels like it will never end, the asking price for Marlins’ catcher J.T. Realmuto is reportedly still high according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The Marlins continue to insist on MLB caliber pieces with at least three more years of control.

Dave O’Brien of The Athletic also notes that the price tag for Realmuto hasn’t changed since the Winter Meetings and that the Braves have moved on to other needs such has corner outfielder and pitching.

Robust Market for Warren

Chris Cotillo of Mass Live reports there’s a robust market for right-handed reliever Adam Warren. Cotillo noted that a few NL contenders are involved. It was recently reported that the Mets have interest in Warren as they continue to remake their bullpen.

Warren had a 3.14 ERA, 3.93 FIP, 1.32 WHIP and 9.1 K/9 over 51.2 innings last season for the Yankees and Mariners. The former fourth round pick had pitched in a variety of roles out of the pen and also had 21 big league starts.
