The Mets will try to do something they’ve done only twice so far this year: win the rubber game. The Mets jumped out early against the Rockies last night only to see the Rockies tie the game not to long later. Then in the seventh and eighth the Mets got a couple of insurance runs (thanks to a tremendous homer from Pete Alonso) and the bullpen held on!

Notes

The Mets have struck out 15 or more batters in back-to-back games for the first time in team history. It marks the 12th time since 1908 that a team has struck out 15 or more batters in back-to-back 9.0 inning games. New York has now struck out 15 or more batters in five games this season. It’s the highest total in the NL and the second-highest in the majors. Only the Astros with seven have more such games.

The Mets have homered in 15-straight home games, which is the longest streak in Citi Field history. The streak is tied for longest overall in franchise history (also, July 16 – August 12, 1996 and May 1-30, 2006).

New York’s bullpen has an 8.06 ERA (40 earned runs/44.2 innings) over its last 15 games. Overall, the pen ranks 25th in the majors with a 5.12 ERA.

Let’s go Mets!
