The Mets announced Sunday that infielder Robinson Cano has been placed on the injured list (IL) with left quad tightness retroactive to June 6. In a corresponding move, the team has recalled right-handed reliever Tim Peterson from Triple-A Syracuse.

Cano, 36, had already spent two weeks on the IL with quad tightness before being activated this homestand.

The second baseman appeared in Wednesday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, where he left the game after limping.

Since then, Cano and the Mets have not been on the same page in regards to the injury.

There have been conflicting opinions on how serious the injury is and if it would require a trip to the IL or not. On Sunday, that resolution finally came.

In 46 games for the Mets in 2019, Cano has hit .238/.284/.366 with three home runs. He has been worth -0.5 bWAR.
