The Mets did it! They beat a team on paper they weren’t better then!

The Mets beat the Dodgers last night 7-3 thanks to a strong outing by Steven Matz who tossed six innings of two-run ball and to a timely grand slam by Michael Conforto reminding us all why we missed him so much when he was on the injured list.

In what has become an interesting storyline this season, which is a nicer way of saying, a surprising storyline: the Mets will see which Noah Syndergaard arrives at the game tonight. He is 3-4 over 11 starts and 69.1 innings with a 4.93 ERA, 3.69 FIP, 1.255 WHIP, and 81 ERA+. After tossing two good starts, allowing a combined four runs over 15 innings, he stumbled in his last outing, allowing six runs over 5.1 innings. He hasn’t faced the Dodgers since 2016 where he allowed two runs over 10.1 innings. The Dodgers have the following numbers against him:

The Mets bats will get a look at Walker Buehler who is 5-1 over 10 starts and 55.1 innings with a 3.58 ERA, 3.06 FIP, 1.048 WHIP, and 116 ERA+. He has been on a tear in his last three starts allowing five runs, only two earned, over 19 innings, a 0.95 ERA. He has never faced the Mets before in a major league game and only two members of the team have seen him before. Robinson Cano went 0-2 with a walk and a strikeout and J.D. Davis went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts.

Game Notes

Michael Conforto is batting .360 (9-for-25) with eight runs, a double, four homers, 11 RBI, six walks and a 1.395 OPS over his last eight games. Overall, his .933 OPS ranks 11th in the National League.

With a win today, the Mets would move above .500 for the first time since they were 16-15 after the game on May 2.

The Mets are tied for sixth in the majors with 13 come-from-behind wins and are tied for the major league lead with
Cleveland with nine last at-bat victories.

New York has scored 105 runs in the seventh inning or later this season. That is the most in majors.

The Mets have hit 32 home runs in their last 19 games and have at least one home run in a season-high nine-straight game. The Mets have hit 19 homers during that span, only the Cubs with 21 have hit more in that time frame. The Mets have had 19 different players go yard this season, the most in the majors. The 2018 Mets also had 19 players with at least one home run. The team record for players with at least one homer in a season is 25, done in 2016.

Todd Frazier is batting .357 (15-for-42) with six runs scored, three doubles, a triple, a home run, three RBI, five walks and a .985 OPS over his last 12 games. He is four home runs away from 200 for his career.

The Mets have struck out 502 batters this year, the fourth-most in the NL and ninth in the majors. The Mets have
struck out 10 or more batters in a game 27 times this season. That is tied for seventh in the majors and tied for third in the NL.

Let’s Go Mets!
