The New York Mets (42-57) defeated the San Diego Padres (42-63) by a score of 6-4 at Citi Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Jose Bautista and Amed Rosario led the Mets to win in today’s game. The Mets have won their first series since May 18th-20th, when they swept the Diamondbacks.

Pitching:

Corey Oswalt was solid today for the Mets. The big righty had a scoreless first inning but got into a first and third, no-out jam in the second. He responded by coaxing a double play which scored a run but limited the damage. He pitched a quick third but faced more trouble in the fourth and fifth innings.

He managed to work out of trouble in fourth but he gave up a homer to Austin Hedges in the fifth. He gave up some hard contact his last few innings but overall, his line was: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K.

Tim Peterson pitched a scoreless sixth inning but gave up a two-run homer in the seventh and left with a runner on first and one out. Robert Gsellman came in to get the Mets out of the inning unscathed.

Anthony Swarzak pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning, with a couple of strikeouts and showed off a nice slider.

Swarzak also stayed on to pitch the ninth inning and he did the job. The Padres went down quietly against the righty.

Offense:

The Mets went down quietly in each of the first four innings but woke up in the fifth.

Kevin Plawecki drove in the first Mets run with an RBI single. With two-outs, Phil Evans drove in the Mets second run and tied the game at the time. After a double steal, Amed Rosario singled home Evans and Jose Reyes to give the Mets a 4-2 lead.

The following inning, Wilmer Flores walked and Jose Bautista followed a two-run homer off the facing of the second deck in left field. I really like Joey Bats.

There wasn’t much offense the rest of the day but overall, it is a good day of work when you score six runs.

On Deck:

The Mets head over to the steel city to start a four-game series with the red-hot Pittsburgh Pirates tomorrow. Steven Matz (4-8, 3.65 ERA) will take the hill for the Mets against Nick Kingham (5-4, 4.11 ERA). The game starts at 7:05 p.m. and will air on SNY.
