Game Recap: Blue Jays Beat Down Mets 12-1

The Mets split their small interleague battle with the Toronto Blue Jays this afternoon, losing 12-1. The ominous weather described how the team played today.

Pitching

Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and really was a tale of two games for Zack. In his first three innings, Wheeler gave up one run, but struck out six and had good command. In his next inning+, Wheeler gave up five runs. A 27 minute delay of sorts forced Wheeler to wait and we will have to wait for Mickey Callaway‘s comments to see how it affected Zack.

Robert Gsellman came on for Wheeler and stranded the runners on base to prevent anymore runners from scoring.

AJ Ramos started the sixth but gave up two runs in the process while recording just two outs. Jacob Rhame relieved him and got the last out of the sixth and also pitched a scoreless seventh. Rhame’s fastball has looked better the last few days than it did earlier this year.

Buddy Baumann pitched the final two innings and did not give up a run in the process. Baumann will likely be heading back to Las Vegas with Jerry Blevins due back from paternity leave soon.

Offense

Well, after last night’s offensive explosion, the team plated just one run this afternoon. Brandon Nimmo hit a solo home run in the ninth inning.

They hit some balls hard early on but they went to hibernation mode after the fifth inning or so. Luis Guillorme got his third hit in the big leagues, an infield single in the second. Phillip Evans started in left field and struck out three times.
