Starting Pitcher: Christian Scott

Christian Scott has made 13 starts this season totaling 59 2/3 innings with a 2.87 ERA, 3.77 FIP, 1.223 WHIP and a 146 ERA+. In his last two starts he has allowed no runs over 10 2/3 innings, scattering six hits and a walk while striking out 12. He has thrown 5 2/3 innings three times this season, could today be the day that he finally completes six innings? This will be Scott’s first start against the Brewers and no one on the Brewers has faced Scott in a Major League game before.

Logan Henderson has made seven starts this season totaling 33 1/3 innings with a 2.97 ERA, 2.71 FIP, 0.930 WHIP and a 143 ERA+. He’s allowed one run or less in three of his last four starts. Henderson throws his fastball 41.4% of the time and it averages 93.1 mph. He mixes in a changeup and cutter. He also has slider that he has thrown only 19 times this season. This will be his first start against the Mets and no one on the Mets has faced Henderson before in a Major League game.

Game Notes

Luis Robert Jr. homered on Tuesday night in the Mets’ 4-0 win. The outfielder is reportedly getting trade interest from multiple teams.

Clay Holmes is also generating trade interest, and a report from The Athletic says it’s more likely he gets dealt than agreeing to an extension with the Mets. He will make a rehab start on Thursday for Triple-A Syracuse. He’s expected to go three innings.

Zac Thornton was very good on Tuesday.

Mike Tauchman is looking better during his rehab assignment.

Three Things To Watch For

  1. Francisco Lindor. For the second time in three days, Lindor had three hits. In his last three games he has gone 7-for-11 with two doubles, a home run, and three walks. Despite reaching base 10 times, he’s only scored two runs over this stretch, which speaks to the overall struggles the Mets have had hitting with runners in scoring position.
  2. Hitting with RISP. The Mets have won two of their last three games. In those wins they have gone 3-for-14 and 1-for-9 with RISP. Somehow they are managing to win games despite leaving 25 runners on base in those games. In the last eight games the Mets are collectively 6-for-61 with RISP. It’s notable and so far off of the average Mets at bat. At some point the Mets will have to (positively) regress to the mean.
  3. Now Pinch Hitting for the Mets. The glut of players who need to start on the Mets roster has peaked this week with so many injured Mets returning. On Monday we saw Carson Benge sit with Juan Soto playing in the field so Jorge Polanco can DH. Yesterday we saw the best possible defense alignment with Benge, Ewing and Robert Jr. in the outfield and Soto DH’ing. With all of this extra fire power on the bench the Mets have gone two games straight without using a pinch-hitter, pinch-runner, or making a defensive substitution.
