Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com has reported that Jacob deGrom is “probably not as” optimistic about completing a contract extension with the New York Mets prior to Opening Day as he had been eleven days earlier.

After going three perfect innings against the Atlanta Braves, the 30-year-old was asked about his contract situation. Like all of us, he is well aware of other superstars like Chris Sale and Justin Verlander signing extensions. In response to that, he states that he is still in wait-and-see mode as both sides have yet to reach an agreement.

Despite the continued dialogue, deGrom states that his focus at the moment is on his Opening Day start. In his 2018 Cy Young winning season, deGrom went 10-9 with a 1.70 ERA, 269 strikeouts, and a 0.912 WHIP.
