When the Minnesota Twins had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the eleventh inning, things began to look grim for the Metropolitans. Curtis Granderson though would go on to homer in back-to-back innings to give the Mets a 3-2 victory in the twelfth.

It has been a down year for the most part for Granderson, though he has gotten hot at just the right time. A player who many believed helped to carry the offense in 2015 has come alive when this team needs him most in 2016. Manager, Terry Collins is not surprised at what has transpired.

“It’s very appropriate,” Collins said. “He’s the guy that you to turn to. You just feel he’s going to do some damage when he’s up at home plate, and lately he’s been doing that.”

The homers were his 27th and 28th home runs of the season, the most he’s hit in a single season since joining the Mets. The last time Granderson hit 28 or more home runs was 2012, when he hit 43 with the Yankees.

Over his last 15 games, the batting average is still low, hitting to a .204/.333/.593 slash line. The production numbers though are up quite dramatically as he has hit 6 homers to go along with 13 RBI in that time period. The Grandy-man has also accumulated 10 walks over those 15 games and helped to produce 13 runs.

“The big thing with this team is continuing to keep pushing forward,” Granderson said.

Saturday’s win brought the Mets to 10 games over .500 for the first time this season. The team has won 10 of its last 13 and is 19-7 over their last 26 games. The Mets are now 32-28 since the All-Star break and have put themselves in a prime position for a Wild Card spot.

The San Francisco Giants had blown a 2-1 lead in the ninth inning Saturday, as the Cardinals picked up a 3-2 victory. The Mets are now tied with the Giants for the top Wild Card spot as the Cardinals trail by two games to both teams.
