The Mets (79-69) defeated the Minnesota Twins (55-94) by a score of 3-2 tonight at Citi Field. With the Giants beating the Cardinals in the ninth, the Mets will extend their wild card lead over St. Louis by three games tonight if the score holds up.

Pitching:

Seth Lugo toed the rubber for the Mets this evening at Citi Field and got into some trouble in the second but came out unscathed.

However, in the fourth, Eddie Rosario took Lugo deep to make it  a 1-0 Twins lead.

All in all, Lugo tight roped through five innings, allowing just the one run, on four hits, while walking four and striking out two. He would be let off the hook and settles with a no-decision after the Mets tied the game in the eighth.

Josh Smoker relieved Lugo and struck out three in the sixth, and Fernando Salas and Jerry Blevins combined to pitch a scoreless seventh.

Addison Reed had a typical Addison Reed eighth, and despite a laborious ninth, Jeurys Familia worked up the guile to keep the Twins at bay.

Hansel Robles pitched a clean tenth, but gave the Twins the lead in the eleventh with a home run from Byron Buxton.

Josh Edgin pitched a scoreless twelfth, and gained the win as Curtis Granderson had some late heroics!

Offense:

Ervin Santana retired the first 11 batters to face him, before Yoenis Cespedes gave the Mets their first hit with a single up the middle.

The Mets had two runners on in the fifth, and the bases juiced in the seventh but failed to score.

It wasn’t until the eighth that Mets were able to get on the board. Jose Reyes singled and subsequently advanced to third, setting up Yoenis Cespedes perfectly for an RBI situation.

Cespedes obliged, and slammed one up the middle to bring Reyes around.

The Twins took the lead in extras off Hansel Robles, but Curtis Granderson picked up the slack, as he homered twice in extra innings to win the game for the Amazins!
