Michael Cuddyer is not in the starting lineup Monday after taking oral anti-inflmmatory medication for the deep bone bruise in his left knee, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

Additionally, Terry Collins told reporters this afternoon that in the likelihood Cuddyer ends up on the disabled list, “the team will likely add an outfielder from Triple-A.”

You know what that means, right?

Like I said this morning and on Sunday, the Mets are not going to promote Conforto and let him walk into this land mine.

Stop listening to the bogus BS that the Mets are giving in, getting desperate, and softening their views on promoting Conforto. It’s not true, and the ones pushing that garbage know it.

The problematic left knee that has had Michael Cuddyer dealing with frequent swelling and sometimes severe pain may soon land the Mets left fielder on the disabled list according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

“I think we’ll try [something] tomorrow, whatever that is,” Cuddyer said. “I think that will be our last effort to try. Hopefully that works and I continue to battle.”

“The last couple of days, as the game wears on, it gets tougher and tougher to battle through it.”

Cuddyer, 36, was pulled in the eighth inning of Sunday’s 3-2 win over St. Louis after the knee started swelling up again. He had been diagnosed with a deep bone bruise behind his kneecap that swells and gets increasingly painful as a game progresses.

The Mets will attempt some treatment on Monday, but it’s safe to say Cuddyer could be MIA when the Mets open a three-game series against the Nationals in DC.

“There’s nothing else the doctors can say,” he said. “It is what it is. You try to do the best you can to deal with it and play through it. The last couple of days it’s been tough.”

Cuddyer told Rubin that a DL stint doesn’t mean he’d be lost for the season, however it would force the Mets to act quickly to find a replacement bat, with the team already missing David Wright and Travis d’Arnaud.

Some believe that top prospect Michael Conforto could be pressed into duty under some very difficult circumstances, something the team has tried to avoid. I’m not sure that’s going to happen just yet.

The front office could also turn to the trade market, but opposing teams all know how desperate the Mets are for offense and Sandy Alderson has little to no leverage. He’s quickly learning that buying isn’t quite as easy as being a seller.

Alderson signed Cuddyer to a two-year, $21 million deal last winter and forfeited a first round pick for him. There’s talk of significantly reducing his role whether he lands on the DL or not.
