Ever since the Wilpons hired new General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen, he has been nothing but excited and confident in his revamped ball club. Brodie has taken MetsTwitter by storm with numerous positive posts about his team throughout the offseason and into the regular season.

He started to show off his team right away in spring training. Days before pitchers and catchers reported to camp, Van Wagenen tweeted out a video of the Mets starters getting work in with the caption, “Snap. Crackle. Pop. #LGM.”

While this may not be the most motivating tweet in the world, and the caption may’ve scared some Mets fans, it certainly showed the excitement Van Wagenen had about being able to watch his star studded pitching staff get to work.

A couple of days later after the full team reported to camp, Brodie posted another spring training video of all the players coming together, sharing his excitement for the return of baseball season with Mets fans. And speaking of exciting the fans, Brodie made it a point to share four separate tweets just thanking fans.

He thanked them not only for being there for workouts in Port St. Lucie, but for having great energy at the park on game days, for going to Syracuse to watch the team workout, and of course for showing up at Duffy’s for the annual live edition of SNY’s Mets Hot Stove.

Van Wagenen also gave MetsTwitter a motivating send off into the regular season. The day before Opening Day, he quoted a video from the team’s Twitter account and said, “I want to thank Mets fans for the support, enthusiasm & belief in our vision. We have a roster of talented players capable of accomplishing great things. I’m proud to be part of this organization & will remain committed to this group of players in their pursuit of greatness!”

From a fans’ perspective, it’s very refreshing to see a general manager so enthusiastic and genuinely excited for the season to begin.

Brodie again took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon, after the teams opening series victory over their division rival Washington Nationals. He tweeted out pictures of Michael Conforto and Pete Alonso high-fiving, Robinson Cano and Amed Rosario high-fiving, and Edwin Diaz pitching, and said “Great series win to start the year! We showed a glimpse of the talent and competitive spirit that this team possesses. Off to Miami! #LGM.”

In interviews, Van Wagenen has provided us with extensive amounts of quotes that display his confidence and excitement for this 2019 Mets team. He recently told the New York Post, “We believe we can win and I think because of that we should not be afraid to say it.”

“We do believe it. It’s just not me saying it. Our players believe it. Our coaching staff believes it, and I think that confidence has resonated across all of us and it gives us the conviction to be able to say it out loud,” he added.

Having Brodie Van Wagenen as a general manager has instilled this sense of pride and confidence in this Mets team that may not have been there before in previous seasons. Both the team and the front office are not intimidated by the competition, possible injuries, the weather, any other potential outside factors.

Van Wagenen encourages the team to focus on what they can control, and knows this 2019 Mets team will be one to remember. As he said multiple times throughout the offseason, Brodie and the Mets have one message for the rest of the National League East, “Our goal is to win a championship and it starts with the division. So come get us.”
