On Thursday night, Mets’ veteran starter Bartolo Colon set a new major league record for scoreless innings by a pitcher age 42 or older at 31 consecutive innings.
Colon, who was coming off a complete game shutout against the Miami Marlins in his last start, kept the Braves scoreless through the first six innings, before letting up a pair of back-to-back-hits from Jace Peterson and Andrelton Simmons.
The ageless wonder who just last week was named N.L. Player of the Week, improved his record to 14-11, and now leads the Mets in wins.
He came up just 1.2 innings short of R.A. Dickey‘s team record for consecutive scoreless innings for a Mets player.
Needless to say, Bartolo Colon has been a great pickup for the Mets after signing with them prior to the 2014 season, and has turned out to be one of Sandy Alderson’s most underrated moves, and a valuable piece for sure.
