The Angels are also in the mix for catcher James McCann according to Robert Murray of FanSided and Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Heyman notes that the Angels have been quietly lurking in the McCann market from the beginning. McCann is from Santa Barbara, and his family still resides there.

Meanwhile, Tim Healey of Newsday reports the Mets are deep in talks with McCann.

Where there’s smoke there’s fire and the rumors around James McCann have been swirling for weeks now.

Ten days ago, we learned that the Mets were showing interest in McCann. Then a few days later the report was that talks were “intensifying” with the free agent catcher.

Now the latest update, by SNY’s Any Martino, is that the Mets are in “serious talks” to sign McCann, who is still looking for a four-year deal.

Martino describes the Mets pursuit for McCann as “aggressive”, with talks having been picked up recently. Martino also notes that the Mets remain engaged on signing center fielder George Springer.
