Sandy Alderson expressed some urgency on Tuesday, regarding his attempts in trying to trade a starting pitcher sooner rather than later.

“I think we’d prefer to sort it out before spring training,” Alderson said on Tuesday. “Spring-training trades don’t happen frequently.”

Bartolo Colon, Dillon Gee, and Jon Niese are the three arms that Sandy prefers to deal, but the problem is that so far, nobody is even nibbling. At least two different beat reporters have learned from team sources that there’s been little to no interest in either of the three Mets veterans.

Maybe that will change at the Winter Meetings when the Mets will aggressively try to shop all three in hopes of not only opening a spot for returning Matt Harvey, but also to gain some salary relief and bring the payroll back under $100 million and closer to $90 million.

Colon is set to make $11 million, followed by Niese who will earn $7 million, and Gee heads to arbitration and is projected to earn $5 million in 2015.
