New York Mets GM Sandy Alderson told reporters on Friday that Dominic Smith will be up before September without giving an exact time.

Sandy also said that once he arrives that Smith will be the everyday starter at first base regardless of the rest of the roster.

Smith was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Month for July after hitting .385/.437/.725 with 13 doubles, eight homers, 26 RBI and 28 runs scored in that span.

The New York Mets traded first baseman Lucas Duda on Thursday night to the Tampa Bay Rays and now have an open spot for prospect Dominic Smith at the big league level.

However, it’s been reported by multiple outlets that Smith is not expected to be promoted immediately and it could wait until after the trade deadline.

Smith, 22, wasn’t in the Las Vegas 51s lineup last night because of a scheduled day off. The young first baseman has been on an absolute tear laltely with a .383/.426/.713 slash line in July.

He’s already set a new career-high with 15 home runs, 72 runs scored and has 30 doubles on the season. Smith leads minor league baseball with 139 hits and is two behind Jose Altuve for the most in all of baseball.

Two players are expected to join the Mets this weekend after rehabbing with the 51s though, infielder Neil Walker and outfielder Brandon Nimmo. The Mets are currently playing with a three-man bench.
