The New York Mets (49-58) were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers (77-32) 6-0 on Friday night at Citi Field. The Mets have now lost seven of their last nine games.
Pitching
Jacob deGrom (12-4, 3.29 ERA) was on the mound for the Mets after his eight-game winning streak was snapped in his last start. He did not have his best stuff, giving up five hits, three runs, and three walks while striking out eight over five innings. It took him 99 pitches to get through the five innings.
Josh Smoker came into the game for the sixth, giving up a two-run home run to Chase Utley with one out.
After giving up the homer, Smoker was replaced with Chasen Bradford who got out of the sixth. Bradford stayed on for the seventh and gave up a walk, double, and sacrifice fly before escaping the inning. Bradford also pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning.
Erik Goeddel pitched the ninth and got through it without allowing a baserunner.
Offense
The Mets offense went up against Yu Darvish (6-9, 4.01 ERA) who made his Dodgers debut. The Mets couldn’t get anything going against Darvish, mustering only three hits and one walk in his seven innings pitched.
The Dodgers bullpen also prevented the Mets from scoring as they only gave up a hit and a walk in two innings.
Amed Rosario, Michael Conforto, and deGrom were the only Mets with hits. Both Rosario and deGrom also had a stolen base; their first career stolen bases.
The Mets were shutout for the fifth time in 2017. It was their first shutout loss since July 18 against the St. Louis Cardinals.
On Deck
The Mets will send Seth Lugo (5-3, 4.53 ERA) to the hill Saturday afternoon for the second game of this series. The Dodgers will counter with southpaw Rich Hill (8-4, 3.35 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 pm.
