Another season is coming to a close – the World Series is here. The Milwaukee Brewers and the Tampa Bay Rays, both vying for their first championship. Who do we think will win? In how many games? Who will get MVP? Here are our thoughts.

As someone who married into a family of Rays fans and will be in Florida with my wife’s family for Halloween I would love to say the Rays will win in seven and I will watch that game with her family, but it is hard to vote against the Brewers.

They have the better offense. They have the better starting pitching. They have the deeper bullpen. They may even be better defensively. And they are going to be a bit more rested.

Because I will be on an airplane for game six I will say that the Brewers will win in six games.

The fun WSMVP choice would be Aaron Ashby continuing to dominate and taking the award by storm but a reliever has not won the WSMVP since Mariano Rivera in 1999 and Ashby is not the team’s primary closer.

So I will go with Jacob Misiorowski throwing two elite starts in games one and five, as well as an impact relief appearance in game six.

I think these teams are pretty evenly matched – the Rays have the upper hand in starting pitching, the Brewers have the better bullpen. While the Brewers scored more runs in the regular season, the teams had similar rate stats (Milwaukee had a 105 OPS+, compared to Tampa Bay’s 103). The Rays’ starters have consistently worked deeper into games compared to Milwaukee, and I wonder at what point the wear and tear will start to get to the Brewers’ bullpen. The Rays don’t strike out often, which leads me to believe they can be the team that finally conquers Milwaukee’s relievers. Milwaukee’s offense was relentless against the Dodgers, so it won’t be easy for the Rays to keep the Brewers down.

Overall, I think this will be a hard-fought series, with the Rays emerging victorious in seven games. Drew Rasmussen will win World Series MVP, winning his starts in Game 1 and Game 5, then coming out of the bullpen to pitch in Game 7.

Brewers in 7, Jackson Chourio is MVP. I wish Bob Uecker was here to see it.

Andrew Steele-Davis

Brewers in six. This should be a really fun and competitive series between two teams who play baseball the right way. Pitching wins, especially in the postseason, so Jacob Misiorowski will win the MVP after authoring his postseason legacy with two elite starts and a gutsy appearance out of the bullpen with everything on the line.

Johnluke Chaparro

Brewers in 6. Christian Yelich wins MVP as he lives up to his newly minted captain status. Tampa will give them a run for their money!

Mojo Hill

Rays in 7. Freddy Peralta World Series MVP, because why not. He enters in desperation relief to get the final out.
