Morning Briefing: Mets Take Series Over Braves

Good morning, Mets fans!

While it seems like all eyes have been on the imminent fire sale bound to take place in Queens, believe it or not, baseball still is being played at Citi Field. After a postponement on Tuesday night, the Mets hosted a day-night doubleheader to finish up their three-game set against the Braves.

Despite losing Game 2 of the doubleheader due to Chris Sale domination, the Mets were able to clinch a series victory earlier in the day on the back of Sean Manaea. The veteran lefty cruised through five scoreless innings, before he was tagged by Matt Olson who tied it up in the sixth inning. However, rookie Carson Benge picked Manaea back up by putting the Mets up for good with an RBI double in the seventh, powering the Mets to a 3-2 victory.

The Mets start a four-game set against the Miami Marlins at Citi Field on Thursday with Nolan McLean (7-7, 3.32 ERA) going against Eury Pérez (5-8, 3.56 ERA) at 7:10 p.m.

Several teams had scouts in attendance for Clay Holmes’ rehab start on Tuesday, including the Yankees, Dodgers and Phillies, among several others, per Will Sammon of The Athletic.

Astros at Mets on Sunday, August 30 has been flexed out of the Sunday prime time spot and is moved to 3 p.m., bumping Cubs-Reds into the primetime spot, per David Lennon of Newsday.

Mets manager Andy Green told reporters that they have not made a decision on Holmes following his rehab assignment. Holmes’ next start would be in five days, one day before the trade deadline.
