The New York Mets have promoted infielder/outfielder A.J. Ewing to Triple A, making him one step away from the majors. Ewing ranked as high as the 28th best prospect in baseball heading into the 2026 season and has gotten off to a hot start in Double-A, slashing .349/.481/.571/1.053 with two home runs and 12 stolen bases.

Ewing boasts a plus contact tool and strong exit velocities, even if his swing does not always allow him to maximize his power output. He has shown the ability to be a plus defender at both center field and second base. With Nick Morabito currently slated in center field, it is unclear if he will shift over to give Ewing more reps there or if Ewing will focus primarily on the infield and corner outfield spots. Of his 164 games in the outfield, 35 have come in the corners.

If Ewing performs well in Syracuse, he could make noise to force his way up to the majors this season. Both the Mets and David Stearns have shown a willingness over the years to bring up top prospects quickly. Carson Benge only played 24 games in Triple-A before his call-up. Keston Hiura with the Brewers played 57 games there before his debut. Garrett Mitchell only played 20 games in Triple-A before his call-up in 2022.
