The Boston Red Sox are signing left-hander Ranger Suárez, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Multiple reports say it’s a five-year, $130 million deal. There are no deferrals or opt outs in the deal.
Suárez, 30, is coming off a season with the Philadelphia Phillies where he had a 3.02 ERA in a career-high 157 1/3 innings. The former Philly has never started more than 29 games in a season. Suárez does have a 3.45 ERA in 666 career innings as a starter and he was named an All-Star for the first time in 2024.
Ranger joins a Red Sox rotation that includes Garrett Crochet, Sonny Gray, Brayan Bello and Johan Oviedo. They acquired both Gray and Oviedo in trades earlier this offseason.
The signing leaves lefty Framber Valdez as the clear-cut top free agent starter still on the market.
