Elian Peña has completed his first professional season in the Mets organization, and he’s finishing with an award in his hands. The 17-year-old shortstop has been named the Dominican Summer League Player of the Month for August.

Peña slashed .404/.509/.787 during the month, totaling four home runs and 11 RBIs, as well as four doubles and five stolen bases.

Playing 55 games in total this year, Peña slashed .292/.421/.528. He played shortstop in 43 of his games, played second base nine times, and was the DH three times. He hit nine homers (including two three-homer games), drove in 33, and swiped 21 bags while being caught stealing four times.

The Mets originally signed Peña to a $5 million club-record signing bonus for international prospects earlier this year. Peña was rated the No. 3 prospect in the international class for 2025 by MLB.com behind the Dodgers’ Roki Sasaki and Dominican shortstop Josuar De Jesus Gonzalez, who signed with the Giants. Peña is MMO’s seventh-best Mets prospect. MLB Pipeline ranked Peña as the Mets’ 10th-best prospect.

Meanwhile, one Mets minor league pitcher picked up some hardware as well. R.J. Gordon received the award for Double-A Eastern League Pitcher of the Month for August. The 23-year-old right-hander made six starts, going 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA. Gordon totaled 34 2/3 innings and struck out 42 against nine walks while holding opponents to a .576 OPS in the month. Gordon was previously ranked as MMO’s No. 36 Mets prospect.
