On a pivotal Sunday, the New York Mets bolstered their playoff hopes with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, thanks to a potent offensive surge combined with solid pitching.

This win puts the Mets in a position where they must win at least one game on Monday against Atlanta. The Braves did lose on Sunday, so they’ll be looking to clinch with at least one victory as well.

David Peterson took the mound for the Mets, delivering a stellar performance that kept their postseason chances alive. Over seven innings and 95 pitches, Peterson allowed just one hit, three walks, and struck out eight. His dominant outing set the tone for the entire afternoon on the mound, while Phil Maton and Edwin Díaz closed it out from the bullpen, keeping the shutout.

After struggling to produce runs in previous games, the Mets’ offense finally broke through in a big way against Brewers starter Colin Rea. Francisco Lindor led the charge, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including a home run and a single, while also stealing two bases. Brandon Nimmo played a key role, driving in Lindor early to give the Mets an early advantage. J.D. Martinez, who was slumping tremendously, broke out with two hits of his own.

Francisco Alvarez, looking fully recovered from his back injury, contributed with two RBIs of his own. He drove in runs with a fourth-inning single and a sacrifice fly in the fifth that nearly cleared the fence. Except for Pete Alonso, every Mets starter with at least two at-bats recorded a hit. The team went 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position, leaving 11 on base.

Edwin Díaz entered the game with a five-run cushion and needed 26 pitches in the ninth, struck out Isaac Collins for the final out, securing the victory and keeping the Mets’ playoff dreams alive for at least another day.
